Food for Others

Subject:  Food for Others Power Pack Program

Dear RE Parents,

Another social justice opportunity for the whole family!

AUUC is holding a food drive to benefit the Food for Others Power Pack Program (P3). Through P3, Food for Others provides elementary school students with a pack of food they can bring home and eat over the weekend. Food for Others provides roughly 1,700 power packs to students at 30 elementary schools in Fairfax County each week.  Approximately 50% of the power packs are provided through volunteer donations and efforts like ours. (For more information, see http://www.foodforothers.org/action/p3).

Please donate food or funds to support this effort.  Our goal is 100 packs! A Power Pack contains two items each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus two snacks and two drinks. Specific items are needed for each bag. We have compiled a sign up list of kid-preferred food items here:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0f4ea8a92b0-food1 Sign up for item(s), then bring them to church and put them in the designated container in the gallery between February 5 and March 4.

PLEASE NOTE:  The items on the list should cost about $10-$20 at a grocery store.  Please consider either teaming up with other donors or donating funds to take advantage of the cost-efficiency of bulk purchases.  After scanning grocery stores and grocery web sites, we have noticed the dollar goes significantly further when buying in bulk. Kristina Watts and Diane Clayton will buy bulk items with any funds donated.  To donate, please make a check to AUUC with the memo:  Power Pack Program donation.

The entire AUUC congregation is invited to assemble the collected food into Power Packs following service on Sunday, March 12 until 1 pm.  This is a great, easy volunteer service activity for kids.  We hope to see you there!
