Spring Study Issue: Poverty, by America

This spring we will have the opportunity to study poverty using the famous book Poverty, by America, by Matthew Desmond. He shows how poverty persists because we in the US don’t care to make the changes to alleviate poverty. And poverty gives an opening to populists to gain votes by pretending to care about it, as has happened in recent elections.

Come learn what causes poverty and what can be done to alleviate poverty. There will be discussions after church on Feb. 16, March 1, April 6, April 20 (Easter), and June 15. Each discussion will cover two chapters. June 15 will cover the last chapter and the epilogue.

The church library will have at least 3 copies of the book available. Fairfax County Public Library currently has available 3 large print versions (9 copies of the regular version are checked out) and digital copies. The paperback version costs around $15, with the hardback version only $16.

Each discussion will start with a short synopsis of two chapters, so you can participate whether you have read the book or not.
