Commission on Our Ministries

The Commission on Our Ministry, like the Board of Directors, is elected by and works directly for the congregation. It has no day to day function, but is charged with maintaining our long-range priorities at AUUC and monitoring the health of the congregation.

The long-range component of our charge is identifying, integrating, and prioritizing the tasks that AUUC does to achieve our mission and vision, as well as identifying when we need to repeat the visioning process. The COOM performs the long-range planning function for AUUC, and monitors the implementation of plans that are approved by the congregation.

The monitoring component uses periodic surveys and other means to identify systemic issues and propose solutions to those issues. The COOM receives input from the BOD, Program Council, committees, and the congregation. This information is discussed and initiatives are recommended to the church leadership and the congregation. The COOM addresses systemic issues and provides oversight on Task Forces empowered by the BOD to develop solutions to those issues. The COOM may prepare a draft Task Force Charge for the BOD to approve, if requested.

The charge that COOM received from the congregation at the May 1, 2016 Annual Meeting was to “Help to increase the quality and efficiency of AUUC communications and publicity, through supporting the establishment of a Communications and Publicity Team.”  We are currently working with the Chair of this team to recruit members, and to develop policy and procedures to strengthen both internal and external AUUC communications.

We generally meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the church office.  Meetings are open to the public, unless sensitive information is to be discussed. Please contact [email protected] if you’d like to attend.
