In summer 2019, the bridge on the existing playground structure became unsafe for use and was removed by AUUC Building & Grounds Committee. The two entrances to the bridge area will be blocked with wooden barricades. Based on an inspection by the playground’s manufacturer which estimated that the entire structure only has 1 to 2 years of use remaining, the quoted cost to fix the broken bridge slats or to replace the bridge alone are overly expensive. Because this playground is an important recreational area for Accotink families, as well as an integral feature of the preschool that rents our space, we seek to replace the entire structure as quickly as possible.
