It was just seven years ago that the Memorial and Meditation Garden was completed and below is a photo as it appeared in October 2017. Recently, we completed a renovation of the lower planting bed and it is shown in the second photo.
Please stop by and pause , if only for a short time, to enjoy the garden and reflect on the last seven years.
It is AUUC’s tradition each fall to remember those who have been placed in the Accotink Memorials. This year the reading of the names will be during the November 3rd All Souls Sunday service.
AUUC’s Memorial Ministry supports church members, their families and the congregation by providing opportunities for expressing grief, sorrow and loss through memorials for deceased members and immediate family.
During the service, we will be asking for donations to support the ongoing maintenance costs of the Memorials. Please make checks payable to “AUUC Memorial Fund” and mail to the church at 10125 Lakehaven Court, Burke, VA 22015.
The Accotink Memorials are not included in the annual church budget, but rather, are funded by directed donation and purchase of columbarium niches, cenotaph wall placements and tree of remembrance leaves. To address the need for regular income to the Memorial Fund for ongoing maintenance, the committee asks for donations from the congregation in May (Memorial Day) and November (All Souls).
For more information about the Accotink Memorials, send us a note at memorials@accotinkuu.org or speak with any of the committee members. The committee members are: Peggy Eckerman, Ed Kringer, Susan Brown, John Burnett, Steve Brown and Don Eckerman.
Thanks for reading and please give generously on November 3rd!
