Our outreach collection recipient for November is O.A.R. This nonprofit restorative justice organization provides opportunities, alternatives, and resources for those involved with the courts in Fairfax, Loudon, and Prince William Counties. O.A.R. has a long relationship with AUUC, including a number of congregants volunteering. This includes volunteering with O.A.R. for years and also during the pandemic.
O.A.R.’s work includes alternative sentencing programs, reentry supports, and family services. Their diversion programs for non-violent misdemeanors allow compensatory actions such as community service as an alternative to sentencing. O.A.R’s anger management classes are part of probation requirements for violent crimes and allow clients to develop improved coping skills. Those returning to the community after incarceration are offered support accessing appropriate services, employment, and housing. Also, their loved ones can join a family support group. For more information visit OARNOVA.org.
Donations may be made online through the AUUC website anytime during November. Click Donate, then check “Monthly Outreach Offerings”. Donations of cash and checks may be placed in the collection basket during the Sunday service. Checks payable to AUUC with a note ‘outreach’ in memo line may be mailed.
Thank you from the Social Justice Committee, sponsor of AUUC Outreach Collections.
