The Virginia State Primary is June 17

The Virginia General Election is November 4

• Register to vote or update an existing registration through Tuesday, May 27 using the online Citizen Portal, https://www.elections.virginia.gov/citizen-portal/

• OR Same-day Registration begins May 28.  Same Day registration is only available:
  • in-person at the general registrar’s office for your locality
  • at your satellite early voting site during the early voting period https://www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot/early-voting-office-locations/
  • at your precinct on Election Day
• Early, in-person voting begins on Friday, May 2 and will continue through 5:00pm Saturday June 14.

• Apply for a Primary ballot to be mailed to you
  • Through 5:00pm on Friday June 6
  • Your local registrar’s office must receive your request by 5:00pm
  • Apply for an absentee ballot online using the Citizen Portal

Statewide races:
Governor: The gubernatorial race does not have a contested primary. Democrat Abigail Spanberger and Republican Winsome Earle Sears will face off in the general election.
Lieutenant Governor: This race has only a Democratic primary. The winner will face Republican nominee John Reid.  Democratic primary: Alex Bastani, Ghazala Hashmi, Babur Lateef, Aaron Rouse, Victor Salgado, Levar Stoney
Attorney General: This race has only a Democratic primary. The winner will face Republican incumbent Jason Miyares in the general election.
Democratic primary: Jay Jones, Shannon Taylor
House of Delegates:  Several races also have primaries, as do several city-specific races.
