November Outreach Collection: Monacan National Food Bank

Putting our Land Acknowledgment into action!

Our November Outreach Collection will support the Monacan Nation Food Bank. This is our chance to put the words of our Land Acknowledgment into action! The Monacan Indian Nation is a federally recognized sovereign tribe, headquartered on Bear Mountain in Amherst County. Citizens of the Nation are descended from the original inhabitants of the land on which our church is located.

The Monacan Nation Food Bank operates under the Monacan Nation Cultural Foundation and works to alleviate food insecurity in Amherst County and the surrounding region. They are USDA-certified and provide nutritious food, but have recently lost federal funding. In addition to serving tribal members, the Food Bank also provides for other Amherst County residents in need. Their slogan is: “Together we are connected – nourishing the Monacan Nation and our community!”

Information regarding the Monacan Nation Food Bank can be found at https://www.monacannation.gov
