the underbelly of Omelas (or Surprise! We’re Still Cannibals)

This church year, we’ve been exploring the foundations of our theological heritage, so that this foundation can root us deeply into our Shared UU Values as a bulwark against the destruction of our constitutional order in favor of cruelty and greed. This Sunday we will continue this exploration of foundations—the foundations of inequality, injustice, and oppression in the United States AND a counter story of a diverse, pluralistic, multicultural Beloved Community where we celebrate that all are sacred beings who can thrive and flourish. In truth, the only way for any of us to truly thrive is together. As Robin Wall Kimmerer has written: “All Flourishing is mutual.”
