Support Voting Rights by Aug. 23

Postcard Writing Opportunity

For our next postcard campaign, we’ll be writing cards for Virginia. This is a WRITE, HOLD, and MAIL LATER campaign. Mail date is Sept. 1 through Oct. 4. We will distribute postcards to you by end of August.

For our third and last postcard campaign for the 2024 election, we are writing to voters in Stafford County, Virgina. In our past two postcards campaigns AUUC volunteers wrote over 2,000 postcards to Florida and North Carolina voters.  We provide the postcards, script, label, and addresses.  You do the writing and provide the stamps.  If you need assistance with the stamps, please let us know.  Postcards will be mailed from Sept. 1 to Oct. 4.

Please let us know how many postcards you can write (in multiples of 20).  We have a short lead time so please let us know by Aug. 23.

Thank you, Suzy , Dotty, Mary.

Background info from Reclaim Our Vote:  We’re writing to urge registered Black voters in Virginia to turn out this fall to preserve hard won rights. We urge early voting in VA’s 45 day period (starting 9/20), to avoid Election Day hazards of racially targeted voter suppression and intimidation. Virginia is the last Southern state with a liberal abortion policy. Virginians have a short but consequential ballot: President/VP, US Senate, US House and a property tax exemption ballot measure. To help voters understand their ballot, we endorse ActiVote, a secure platform from a small team devoted to democracy and voter privacy. ActiVote provides ballot and polling info, ranks candidates in relation to a voter’s surveyed views, verifies registration, Voter ID, etc.

A note from Andrea Miller, Founding Board Member Center for Common Ground:
Thank you for being a postcard volunteer with Center for Common Ground. Since 2018, our postcards have made a huge difference to rural voters of color who had no other contact opportunities.  Our message asking them to check their voter registration, pledge to vote, and how to get information on when and where they could vote empowers these forgotten communities.
Again, thank you for supporting the freedom to vote and your outreach to community of color voters.
