AUUC Hypothermia Shelter, Jan. 11–18

UUC will be hosting our 15th annual hypothermia shelter and everyone is invited to participate.  We provide a warm place to sleep, dinner each night at ~6:30and personal care items for our guests with to take with them.

To make all this happen, we need a set-up crew each evening to ensure the building is ready to receive our guests.  We also need people to prepare meal items to be at AUUC between 5:15 – 5:30PM each day and people to arrange/serve the food and clean the kitchen after the meal.  Shelley Brosnan and Chris Stunkard run our dinner operations.

This is a family friendly event and older children (~10) are welcome to participate in the shelter any night under parental supervision.  In addition, Michele and the Children’s Spiritual Development Committee will provide ways for our younger children to be involved.

Winter clothing and personal care items

In addition to food and shelter, we will also provide Winter clothing and personal care items for our guests.   To help with planning, we’ve created this sign-up for some of the most popular Personal Care Items Sign-Up.  All quantities are minimum goals; feel free to bring more than requested, even if the list says “All Slots Filled.”

In addition to items on this list, we welcome sample-sized toiletries (such as those from hotel stays), gently used winter coats, and adult-sized clothing items, like underwear, long underwear, winter hats, scarves, and gloves. We also like to provide a selection of new or gently used books and recent magazines. Please limit your clothing donations to winter-appropriate items and ensure they are clean and ready-to-wear.
Donations can be placed in the labeled bin in the coat closet at church. Our guests always appreciate your generosity! Thank you for your support. Please reach out to Jessica Larsen if you have any questions. (See contact link in Signup Genius.)

Our UU principles stress “the inherent worth and dignity of every person” and “the interdependent web of all existence”……together, we will help a lot of people again this year.
