Apr. 21: Special Election on Constitutional Amendment

Ballot Question:

Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census.

The amendment would allow the Virginal General Assembly to redraw Congressional districts mid-decade, temporarily bypassing the standard 10-year redistricting cycle.

  • Supporters:  The goal is to counter gerrymandering in other states and restore fairness in upcoming elections.
  • Critics:  It could favor Democrats and undermine the bipartisan redistricting process established in 2020.
