“Defending Our Democracy: We Belong to Each Other”

Rev. William Levwood

Here at Accotink UU Church we’re making a commitment to meet the moment with our response to the current political crisis in our nation. A few Sundays ago more than thirty of you showed up and shared with the minister and other social justice leaders what you want us to focus on. We’ve taken that information and turned it into a plan for engagement that has ways to act from the easy to the more challenging.

This Sunday’s sermon will introduce our plan for Defending Our Democracy by actively resisting authoritarian rule, providing emotional and material support to the most vulnerable, keeping our hopes up by connecting with each other and sharing good news, and countering polarization by learning how to have difficult conversations as we draw the circle wide. Join us this Sunday and after church on October 19th for a meeting to organize ourselves so we can make this vision real and impactful!

Question to Ponder: “When was a time that compassion motivated you to do something really hard that you otherwise might not have done?”
